Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

While looking at this photographers photos, I really enjoyed the nature aspect he took. He also made me feel like I was sitting in front of the scene pictured.

Photo 2-

I see two boys who are curious. They might be lost. It also looks like they've had something terrible happen to them recently. Maybe they lost a loved one. Maybe they were the ones who passed.
I smell the crisp autumn air. I can sense the leaves being somewhat bitter of an aroma.
I can hear the crunching of the dried leaves. Something rustling in the woods behind the boys. I can hear the silence of the heavy atmosphere. A car drives by and you can faintly hear the sound in the background.
I can taste the bitter of the leaves. Also, the cold air. The faint, but sweet flavor of the nearby meadow full of the dying flowers.
I feel the cool wind blowing over my fingertips. I also feel sad for the boys. Confused, too.

Photo 3-

I see trees. Dead or dying. I assume they have fallen over maybe due to an ice storm, explaining the hills of snow I also see. The surroundings look quiet.
I can smell the cold feeling of the snow. There is also a taste hanging in the air of the dying bark.
I hear the noise of the small animals running through the forest. There is also the sound of the the crunching of the ice under my feet.
I can taste the cold air of the snow. The smell of the trees, I can taste.
I feel cold. I also feel confused. What happened here? I feel afraid of what might be lurking.

I think it would be cool to do a bog about this photographer and everyday, put up a new picture of his and update viewers with the information i provided above and describe the physical and emotional aspects of it. Also I think it would be cool to set up a mini art show to tell people more about this artist and get the word out about his amazing work.

Mural Project Preview

I think we could photograph all the different types of people here at Bowie. Show all the different types of groups and crowds the school has.
I think using both cameras and phones would be okay. I know I feel like I work better with my phone, having more control. i think we could put it right when we walk into the academic hall. I think it would be cool to somehow mount it to the ground, in front of the library.

Abandoned Theme Parks

I would visit Chippewa Lake Park, Medina County, Ohio. Everything is overgrown and I think it would be a very interesting place to go. All of the plants and half of the rides have taken over. It seems very old and creepy and like it would make a neat place to photograph. It also seems very dangerous and unstable.

  • -Underwater Water Fall in Mauritius Island
  • -Tasmania's Totem Pole
  • -Setenil de las Bogedas
  • -Kummakivi

This photograph is unbelievable. The fact that this is real, amazes me. I think it would be cool to go here and figure out what all is there. Seeing all the different animals and plants, really the entire environment embalmed almost, blows my mind. I would love to take photos of the environment and show and tell others about this wonderful place.
I would most likely need permission from someone to get here. I would have to take a long plane ride and bring along a lot of equipment with me. I would have to have many different cameras for different purposes along with different lenses. Im sure this spot is not open to just anyone so I would have to go through a lot, as the photographer of this photo probably did.

Africa

I am overly amazed by just the few photographs given. This man loves what he does and has no problem waiting a while to get an awesome photo just to please others. I hope someday I can have half the talent of photography that he does.

This is a photograph of an elephant drinking from the nearby watering source. I am amazed and curious of how the photographer captured such a picture. The photo is so simple yet so powerful at the same time. It caught my eye tremendously as I flipped through the photos.
Simplicity is present . It is just the elephant with a simple background. It also could represent balance with the light and dark contrast.
He uses a Pentax67 II with a portrait and wide angle lens. This is important because it lets him control the distance and the tone of the picture.
he takes these pictures because these animals are his passion. He is fascinated with them. They also give the viewer along side himself, something amazingly beautiful to look at.
He hopes that he will cause people to be aware of what is happening to these animals and to donate to protect them.
"There is something profoundly iconic, mythological even, about the animals of East and southern Africa."- Nick Brandt

Peer Reflection

http://sarahhphotojournalism.blogspot.com/

I felt this person followed the rule of framing the best. The chair actually makes a frame effect around the girls face.
I think this person followed lines the least. Yes, there are many aspects of lines in the photo, but your eye doesn't immediately draw to them, or at least mine didn't.
I really enjoyed looking at this persons pictures because I feel she captured the subject alongside the rule very clearly. I also really enjoyed her eye to capturing the photos.
I feel she could make her lines photo more clear to understand to others.

Academic Shoot Reflection

Some challenges I ran into were having the students try not to look at you. Also, when it was my turn to shoot, it seemed like all academic classes and the classes I specifically wanted to go to, didn't have a class. I focused on focus mainly along side finding a good subject for each photo. One photo I took, it was focused in on the girl writing while the rest was blurred. I would focus mainly on the rules of framing and line which I feel were my worst representations of the rule. I would keep the same ideas, just try to execute them better. Simplicity and rule of thirds are the easiest to accomplish I believe. The hardest to capture I believe was framing. I feel I need to still better understand framing. i can go back and re-read the article about framing we previously looked at.

Academic Shoot

Rule of Thirds

I believe I followed the rule correctly. The subject is the girl who is placed in the right hand side of the photo, working on her homework. I think the subject is clear since the picture is mainly about her.

Simplicity

I believe I followed the rule correctly. The subject is very easy to follow, the girl being the only thing that your eyes draw to making it very simple. I believe the subject is clear and easy for the eye to see because the girl is the only subject, therefore making the photo simple.

Lines

I believe I somewhat followed the rule. I used this for lines in that you can clearly see all the different lines the desks make when pushed together. The main subject is meant to the desks. I believe if you look at the photo for a second, you can tell that the lines in the desks make the photo acceptable to be used for the lines rule. I believe that I could captured a photo of the desks in a line to better fit the line rule.

Balance

I believe that this photo follows the rule of balance. The subject is the group of people at the table that has two people on each side, therefore making it balanced. I believe the subject is made pretty obvious to the eye. I could have made the picture a little more straight and centered to make it more balanced.

Framing

I believe that this wasn't my best photo and I didn't follow the rule completely. The subject is the desks that are lined up to make a corner, making a frame like aspect. I do not believe the subject was very clear. I think the if I were to get and above photo, that I could've actually made a better frame aspect out of the desks.

The Story

This picture shows how the kids are volunteering and doing good. It shows the good that is in everybody. It tells the story how a group of people with the good in their hearts decided to get together and do something amazing for people in need.

Action and Emotion
In this picture, a group of students are seen praying together. The emotion that is in this picture is more spiritual than anything. The atmosphere seems very calming, too.

Filling the Frame
The frame is filled with excitement and amazement between the two girls doing this experiment. The have just made a reaction between something and I can only imagine the amazement and laughs coming out of their mouths.

My favorite photo was an experiment where the girl was dropping liquid onto a speaker while the speaker was playing something. I picked this picture because I thought it was very exciting feeling and that it immediately drew my eyes in. This photo represents balance and lines.

I think I could go to classes in the science department. I would like to go to my chemistry class and my agriculture class. We are always doing fun projects in both of those classes. I will always keep the rules in mind and find awesome angles and good subjects to fill the photos.
